Abstract

A wrought article is composed of an aluminium base alloy having the composition .Cu.0.6 - less than 2.per cent .My.0.7 - 2.per cent .Si.0.6 - 2.per cent .Al the balance... The alloy may also include one or more of the following grain refining elements .Cr.0.10 - 0.4.per cent .Mn.0.40 - 1.2.per cent .Ti.0.02 - 0.3.per cent .Be.0.001 - 0.01.per cent and also one or more of Mo, W, Co, Zr, B and V in the proportion normally used for grain refining. The alloy may be solution treated at above 940 DEG C. but below the temperature of incipient fusion, quenched rapidly and aged at 300-400 DEG F. for about 24 hours.
