Abstract

The alloy claimed in the parent Specification is modified by the addition of up to 0.2 per cent Cd. Forged articles may be produced from an alloy of the composition Cu 4.5-7.0 per cent, Ni 0.1-2.0 per cent, Mn 0.01-0.6 per cent, Ti 0.1-0.3 per cent, Co 0.1-0.5 per cent, Fe 0.01-1.0 per cent, Si 0-0.45 per cent, Zn 0-2.0 per cent, Bi 0-0.3 per cent, Sb 0-0.5 per cent (Sb and Co in total not exceeding 0.6 per cent), Mg 0-0.2 per cent, Cd up to 0.2 per cent, Zr up to 0.4 per cent (Zr and Ti in total not exceeding 0.5 per cent), Al and impurities the remainder. The alloy may be solution treated at 515-565 DEG C. for 1/2 to 25 hours, quenched in water, heated to about 70 DEG C. and finally aged at 170-230 DEG C. for 2-16 hours.
