Abstract
An Al-base alloy has the following percentage composition, by weight: Cu 3-9; Mn 0.15-1; Li 0.2-3; Mg 0.05-2; one or more of the following: Cd 0.02-0.5; Hg 0.02-0.3; Sn 0.02-0.3; In 0.02-0.3; Tl 0.02-0.3. Al the remainder, the total content of Cd, Hg, Sn, In, Tl not exceeding 0.75%. Zn 0.1-2%, Si up to 0.6% and Fe up to 0.6% may also be present in the alloy, as may B 0.002-0.05%, Ti 0.01-0.25%, Zr 0.02-0.3%, V 0.01-0.1%, up to a total of 0.5%. The alloy may be solution heated at 920-980 DEG F. for 1-12 hours, quenched and aged at 275-350 DEG F. for 5-200 hours.
