Abstract

Ternary aluminium b -brasses, which have the composition Cu 55-71 per cent, Al 2-5 per cent, Zn the remainder, and which are wholly b -phase alloys when quenched from 600 DEG C or when slowly cooled from 600 DEG C or higher, have their resistance to intercrystalline fracture improved by an addition of 0.01-0.5 per cent of Ti or Zr or both. According to the Provisional Specification the proportion of the added metal may be less than 1 per cent, e.g. 0.001-0.5 per cent.
