Abstract

In welding aluminium alloys an aluminium base alloy of the following percentage composition is employed as the welding rod material; copper 4.5-7.0 preferably 4.5-6.2; nickel 0.1-2.0 preferably 0.8-1.2; manganese 0.01-0.6 preferably 0.2-0.3; titanium 0.1-0.3 preferably 0.15-0.25; cobalt 0.1-0.5 preferably 0.1-0.4; iron 0.01-1.0 preferably 0.01-0.5; silicon 0-0.45 preferably 0-0.3; antimony 0-0.4 preferably 0-0.4; aluminium and impurities the remainder. The following may form part of the alloy, zinc up to 2 per cent.; bismuth up to 0.3 per cent.; zirconium up to 0.4 per cent., but with the total of zirconium and titanium not exceeding 0.5 per cent. and magnesium up to 0.2 per cent. Specifications 686,755, 686,819 and 686,820 are referred to.
