Abstract
The range of proportions of zinc in the alloy claimed in the parent Specification is modified to give an alloy of the following composition: Zn 6.51-9.00 per cent, Mg 1.50-4.50 per cent, Si 0.01-1.00 per cent, Fe 0.01-0.60 per cent, Mn 0.01-4.00 per cent, Ni 2.01-5.00 per cent, Cu 0.0-0.19 per cent, Al the remainder. The alloy may contain one or more of Ti, Nb, B, V, Zr, and Ce not exceeding a total of 0.70 per cent. The alloy may contain one or more of Sb, Sn and Ca up to 1.75 per cent in total and individually not exceeding 1.5 per cent. The alloy may contain one or more of Be, Co, Cr, W, Mo, Ag, Li, Ta, Te, Th, Tl, up to 1.50 per cent in total and individually not exceeding 0.75 per cent. One or more of Pb, Bi, Cd, As, P, Na and Ba may also be present not exceeding a total of 1.0 per cent, Pb being absent when Si and Fe are each present in amounts of 0.40 per cent or over. The alloy may be subjected to a solution-treatment, e.g. at 450-530 DEG C. up to about 24 hours, quenched and either naturally aged or artificially aged, e.g. at 100-150 DEG C. for from half an hour to twenty-four hours, afterwards cooling in air.
