Abstract

542,490. Fluxes. ORMISTON, H. O. June 27, 1940, Nos. 10968 and 12009. [Class 82 (ii)] Fluxes for use in connection with the welding or jointing of bodies formed of aluminium or aluminium alloys contains lithium chloride, an aluminium salt of an organic acid such as aluminium acetate with or without one or more of cryolite, an alkali metal chloride other than lithium chloride, and zinc chloride. The flux may also contain a fat acid, i.e. an acid the glyceride of which is present in an oil or fat such as stearic acid. When the flux is used with water, it contains zinc chloride but not if used in powder form. In an example, a flux contains 18 parts by weight of lithium chloride, 37 of cryolite, 10 of aluminium acetate, and 35 of potassium chloride.
