Abstract
A magnesium base alloy contains at least 85 per cent magnesium, 1-4 per cent by weight of cerium or cerium mischmetall, 0.1-0.9 per cent by weight of zirconium, the remainder, if any, being zinc and cadmium not exceeding 5 per cent each and/or elements which do not form high melting point compounds with zirconium, such as thallium, thorium, copper, bismuth, beryllium, lead, lithium and calcium, these elements not exceeding half per cent each and up to half per cent in total when more than one is present. The alloy may contain up to 5 per cent of silver, the cadmium, if any, together with the silver not exceeding 5 per cent in total. The alloy may be wrought or cast to substantially the finished shape.
