503,753. Alloys; hardening. TRIGGS, W. W. (Mallory & Co., Inc., P. R.) July 9, 1937, No. 19143. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] An age-hardened copper alloy, suitable for welding-electrodes and for other electrical purposes, contains 0À1-2 per cent of cadmium and 0À1-5 per cent of zirconium, with or without one or more of the following up to 5 per cent of silver, up to 10 per cent of zinc, up to 1 per cent of calcium, up to 1 per cent of lithium, up to 1 per cent of silicon, and up to 1À5 per cent of berylliun. The alloy is preferably made by the use of a hardener alloy of copper containing 10-30 per cent of zirconium. The alloy may be hardened by heating to 800-1000‹ C., quenching, and ageing at 400- 600‹C., or it may be hardened by cold working such as to give a reduction of 30-40 per cent.
