Abstract

578,187. Thermo-electric devices. SCHWARZ, E. July 2, 1941, No. 8364. [Class 53] [Also in Group II] A body for a thermo-electric couple is formed from a composition including silver, sulphur and selenium, the amount of selenium being less than 15 per cent. by weight and insufficient to saturate the silver and any other metal present. A composition for a positive element comprises 1 per cent. of copper, 78 per cent. of silver, 0.6 per cent. of tellurium, 13 per cent. of selenium, and 7.4 per cent. of sulphur. A composition for a negative element comprises 27 per cent. of copper, 32 per cent. of silver, 33 per cent. of tellurium, 7 per cent. of selenium, and 1 per cent. of sulphur. Certain other metals, such as lead or thallium, may be added. The compositions may be employed in the thermo-electric devices described in Specification 578,188. Specification 501,410 also is referred to.
