Abstract

An alloy of the pewter or Babbit type has the following composition: - Sn at least 75 per cent, Sb 5-15 per cent, Cu 1-8 per cent, In 0.05-0.3 per cent, Pb the balance, if any, but not exceeding 10 per cent. The alloys may be used in bulk, e.g. in the production of pewter ware, or as coatings, e.g. in the production of bearing surfaces. The Provisional Specification describes also the addition of In to Sn in proportions up to 10 per cent, particularly 0.05-0.2 per cent.
