Abstract
An unsintered flux, useful in the welding and brazing of Al and Mg and alloys thereof. consists of, by weight, at least 84.9 per cent NaCl and KCl in aggregate, the NaCl being at least equal in weight to the KCl 6.6 per cent LiF and 8.5 per cent cryolite, the total fluoride content being not more than 15.1 per cent of said flux. The content of NaCl may be 42.5-44 per cent and the content of KCl, 42.4-40.9 per cent. The chloride content may be increased to 85.1 per cent with a corresponding decrease in the fluorides. Torch welding using an aqueous slip or slurry of the flux is referred to.
