Abstract

A composition for coating metals with aluminium or aluminium alloys comprises essentially five to fifty parts by weight of powdered aluminium or aluminium alloy and one part by weight of a flux consisting of one or more chlorides and one or more fluorides in such proportions that the flux is molten at the coating temperature. Alumina may also be incorporated in the composition to an amount such that the powdered metal is two to five times the alumina content. The composition may be suspended in a liquid, e.g., polystyrene in toluol. The composition of the flux may be 25 per cent. NaCl, 36 per cent. KCl, 20 per cent. LiCl, 6 per cent. SrCl2, 1 per cent. KF, 12 per cent. Cryolite. The coating may be effected at 500-1000 DEG C. Specification 539,545 is referred to.
