Abstract
A flux comprises fusible salts such as sodium and potassium chlorides and fluorides and at least 10% by weight of a solid, infusible inert absorbent material which does not react with the other constituents of the flux and which is incombustible or burns only slowly. The absorbent material may be grog or coke and is preferably present from 30-70% by weight. In an example a flux consisting of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, cryolite and grog is used for fluxing dross on molten aluminium.
