Abstract
562,636. Fluxes. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd., and EMLEY, E. F. Dec. 24, 1942, Nos. 19129/43 and 19130/43. Divided out of 562,597. [Class 82 (i)] A flux for refining and/or protecting against oxidation magnesium, magnesium base alloys, and aluminium base alloys containing magnesium has the following composition, viz:- magnesium chloride 30 to 48 per cent, alkali or alkali earth metal fluoride or fluorides over 25 and up to 40 per cent, magnesium oxide 0 to less than 5 per cent, calcium chloride 5 to 27 per cent, sodium chloride 1 to 20 per cent, potassium chloride 1 to 20 per cent, and inert impurities up to 5 per cent. The inert impurities may comprise barium or strontium chlorides, and oxides such as silica, iron oxide and calcium oxide. The sodium and potassium chlorides amount together to between 6 and 35 per cent, and the magnesium chloride being at least equal in weight to the fluoride or fluorides.
