Abstract
562,597. Fluxes. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd., and EMLEY, E. F. Dec. 24, 1842, Nos. 18351/42 and 17786/43. [Class 82 (i)] A flux for refining and/or protecting against oxidation magnesium, magnesium base alloys, and aluminium base alloys containing magnesium has the following composition, viz:- magnesium chloride over 10 but less than 30 per cent, alkali or alkali earth metal fluoride or fluorides less than 30 per cent, magnesium oxide up to 30 per cent, calcium chloride 10 to 40 per cent, sodium chloride 5 to 21 per cent, potassium chloride 3 to 14 per cent, and inert impurities up to 35 per cent ;.. the fluoride (or fluorides) and magnesium oxide together amounting to between 10 and 40 per .cent, the sodium and potassium chlorides together amounting to at least 10 per cent, and the magnesium chloride and calcium chloride together amounting to between 20 and 55 per cent, whilst the magnesium chloride is at least equal in weight to the fluoride or fluorides. The inert impurities, which may be employed for their inspissating effect, may be oxides such as iron, manganese, and calcium oxides. Reference is made to Specification 539,024.
