Abstract
A welding flux which is substantially fluid at 610 DEG C. consists wholly of fluorides at least 85 per cent. of the flux consisting of the following:-lithium fluoride 16-24 per cent. by weight, magnesium fluoride 23-33, calcium fluoride 14-20 and barium fluoride 29-41, potassium and sodium fluorides, if present, being less than 3 per cent. The flux may also contain one or more of the fluorides of strontium, cerium, zinc, aluminium and manganese, also ammonium fluoride and lithium titanium hexafluoride. In an example, the flux consists of 20 per cent. of lithium fluoride, 28 of magnesium fluoride, 17 of calcium fluoride and 35 of barium fluoride.
