Abstract

1292513 Aluminium, manganese alloys FOOTE MINERAL CO 12 March 1970 [17 March 1969] 12036/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division B2] An Al/Mn alloy is formed by adding to molten Al, Mn having a coating molten at the temperature of the molten Al and containing a potassium fluoride. The coating may also contain chemically combined Al, Ti, Zr, Mn or Na as for example the complexes potassium titanium fluoride, potassium manganese fluoride or potassium zorconium fluoride, or a KF/NaF mixture. KF per se is not suitable. The method may be used to yield the final desired Mn content, or to form a master alloy for later addition to aluminium.
