Abstract
1,199,433. Producing zinc-manganese alloys. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd. Aug. 5, 1968 [Aug. 31, 1967], No.39952/67. Heading C7D. Alloys consisting wholly or mainly of zinc and manganese are produced by reacting manganous chloride dissolved in a fused non-oxidizing or inert salt or salt mixture with a molten zinc-magnesium alloy. The salt or salt mixture may be one or more of the chloride of the alkali and alkali earth metals other than magnesium. After decanting the salt reaction product the zinc-manganese alloy may be covered with a layer of fluorspar, magnesium fluoride or magnesium oxide. The resulting alloy can be used as a hardener for alloying with magnesium, aluminium or copper.
