Abstract
A flux composition for melting or fluxing with aluminium or an alloy containing at least 70% Al to prevent dross or slag formation comprises either (a) 20 - 35% NaCl, 50 - 70% CaCl2, 4 - 10% BaCl2 and 3 - 10% CaF2; or (b) 10 - 20% KCl, 55 - 75% CaCl2, 5 - 16% BaCl2 and 5 - 12% CaF2. A charge to a melt vessel preferably consists of 70 - 98% of chips of aluminium material and 2 - 30% of the above flux, being heated at temperatures up to 980 DEG C.
