Abstract
Low-melting slag contains (in wt.%): B2O3 10-20, K2CO3 15-20, fused borax 10-20, the remainder being NaF. Opt. up to 5% of cryolite can be added to prevent burning of Al. There is no burning of metal edges, whilst the molten slag has sufficient chemical activity and dissolves the oxide film from the metal surface. Metals melting at different temps. can be welded together (e.g. Cu, bronze or brass can be welded onto steel).
