Abstract

A magnesium alloy consists of 81-99,4 per cent of magnesium, 0,1-3 per cent of manganese, and 0,5-16 per cent of zinc. The alloy may be prepared by adding manganese and zinc, or an alloy of manganese and zinc, to molten magnesium. Alternatively, the manganese may be introduced by contacting molten magnesium or magnesium alloy with a manganese compound from which manganese is liberated by the molten metal. British Specification 28608/09, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], and U.S.A. Specifications 982,022 and 1,377,374 are referred to.
