Abstract

544,350. Alloys. ABBEY, A. (Dow Chemical Co.). Oct. 4, 1940, No. 14894. [Class 82 (i)] Magnesium alloys, particularly suitable for rolling, drawing &c. contain 0.3-12 per cent. of silver, 0.5-1 per cent. of calcium, and 0.1-3 per cent. of manganese. The alloys may be made by adding the other metals to molten magnesium under a flux which, if the calcium content of the alloy is to be over 0.3 per cent., should be free from magnesium chloride. Specific examples of magnesium alloys of similar composition except that they contain respectively no silver, no calcium, and no manganese, are referred to by way of comparison.
