Abstract

548,216. Alloys. ABBEY, A. (Dow Chemical Co.) March 28, 1941, No. 4240. [Class 82 (i)] Magnesium alloys containing calcium are made by adding to molten magnesium or magnesium alloys the required amount of an alloy consisting of calcium with 18-23 per cent. of magnesium. The production of magnesium alloys containing (1) 1 per cent. of calcium, and (2) 10 per cent. of aluminium, 0.1 per cent. of manganese, and 0.2 per cent. of calcium is referred to. The addition of the calcium-magnesium alloy is preferably made under a protective gas or a flux such as potassium and sodium chlorides.
