Abstract
532,649. Welding. BRADLEY & CO., Ltd., and BRADLEY, H. Sept, 19, 1939, No. 26112. [Class 83 (iv)] In spot welding together parts of thin or thick metal or thin metal d to thick metal c, at least one of the electrodes b has an electrically insulating or insulated blind spot so that the electrons are dissipated around the spot over a comparatively wide area to ensure fusion over that area. Perforation and burning of thin metal is thus avoided. The electrode b engaging the thin metal may be of greater superficial area area than the electrode α and provided with a blind aperture b<SP>1</SP> filled with an electrically insulating and heat resisting material b<SP>2</SP> such as fire clay, asbestos &c. The end of the electrode b may be flat, convex or concave.
