Abstract
684,631. Welding by fusion. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. April 20, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 9784/50. Addition to 671,115. Class 83 (iv). The process of the parent Specification of welding cylindrical members wherein the ends to be joined are bevelled, one substantially wholly and the other such as to leave a root face and wherein the ends are held apart and welded from one side only by an arc struck between an electrode and the root face is applied to welding members other than cylindrical members wherein a convex weld root is formed. In an embodiment of a longitudinal tube joint, the bevelled edges diverge with an included angle α of 60-80 degrees and the gap b between the edges is between 2 mm. and 3 mm. The root face a may have a depth not less than the diameter of the electrode and may be 3-6 mm. when the opposite edge is bevelled over its thickness to leave a face not greater than 1 mm. Several relationships between electrode diameter, root face a and gap b dimensions are described.
