Abstract

Contactless automatic striking of an extinct arc in inert-gas W arc welding uses a plasma arc, directed against the point of the non-consumable electrode. This heats the point and ionises the gas between electrode and workpiece. Best striking conditions are combined with minimum power cost if the current strength for the plasma arc is kept to 2.5A.
