Abstract

Welding head comprising a main non-consumable tungsten electrode situated vertically in an inert gas chamber with a second auxiliary tungsten electrode positioned horizontally to and insulated from the main electrode. An arc is struck by means of a separate high frequency generator, which has one lead connected to the auxiliary electrode. For plasma-arc welding a current discharger in the circuit results in a high fequency current ionising the gases in the weld vicinity, causing an arc to be struck and then an immediate cut-out of the secondary circuit.
