922,088. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. SOUTHALLS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Feb. 6, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 6099/60. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XI] A method of forming a tunnel-like hem on a thermoplastic sheet comprises folding over a marginal portion of the sheet, bringing into contact with the folded portion a bar-type electrode having on its contacting face a plurality of parallel ribs or a plurality of projections arranged in parallel rows and passing a high-frequency welding current between this electrode and another on the opposite face of the sheet so as to fuse the thermoplastic along a plurality of continuous or interrupted parallel lines which intersect the edge of the folded portion of the sheet. Fig. 1 shows a suitable electrode having on one face a plurality of parallel ribs 5. The ribs may be interrupted to form projections or they may be parallel to the longitudinal axis in which case the electrode is used at an angle to the hem.
