Abstract
965,985. Spark apparatus. COMMUNAUTE EUROPEENE DE L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE (EURATOM). Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 20, 1961], No. 38599/62. Heading H1D. Spark-gap apparatus comprises an electrode 1 separated from an electrode 2 by a disc 3 of insulating material, the centre portion 1b of the electrode 1 projecting through the disc 3 so that a spark gap is formed between the portion 1b and the electrode 2, the insulating disc 2 being made of a material, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, which is capable of having its surface layer vaporized by the heat generated by the spark discharge at least over the annular area 3a, the vaporized products and metallic particles from the electrodes 1h, 2 being deposited on the disc 3 over the outer annular area 3b thus ensuring that the disc 3 retains its insulating property. An electrode element 2a surrounded by an insulating member 6 may be inserted into the electrode 2 so as to form a trigger spark gap 2, 2a to provide pre-ionization of the spark gap 1b, 2.
