Abstract

1330309 Discharge apparatus MEDICOR MUVEK 17 Sept 1970 [29 Oct 1969] 44379/70 Heading H1X An air ionizer, which can be run from a battery or mains and operates with a high voltage produced by a voltage multiplier, has a set of ionization electrodes which are sawteeth formed in a metal strip 4, and a deflecting electrode 5. The strip 4 is fixed to the outside of a ring 3, and the electrode 5 which may be a metal foil or electrically conductive paint is located on the outside of a ring 2, the rings 2 and 3 being fixed to or integral with a disc 1 of synthetic material. A disc 9 of synthetic material secured by a screw 11 to the disc 1 has a sloping edge 10 forming a gap 12 with the sloping edge 8 of a hole in a housing 6 of synthetic material. The tips of the sawteeth electrodes lie in the centre of the gap 12. The inside surface of the disc 9 is made antistatic, and if the material of the housing 6 is such as to become statically charged, a further deflecting electrode 15 is provided on the inside of the housing and is connected to electrode 5. The voltage multiplier together with a transformer and indicator lamp are fixed to the disc 1 under a cover 13. An alternative form of ionizer (Figs. 3 to 5, not shown) has a head of rectangular crosssection containing a plurality of sawtooth strip electrodes supported behind slits in a grating and surrounded by a deflecting electrode.
