Abstract

<PICT:0967293/C1/1> A chamber for the electrostatic precipitation of ions of decay products of radon on a negative collecting electrode, the activity of the deposit on the collecting electrode being indicated by a radiation detector, is made of electrically insulating material and has a positive planar electrode situated at the bottom thereof with a planar plate negative collecting electrode opposite and parallel to said electrode and a radiation detector attached to said negative electrode. The radiation detector may be an ionization chamber, a Geiger counter, a scintillation counter, a photoconductive or photo-emissive detector. As shown, the glass vessel 1 has an inlet 11 and a positive electrode 3, opposite and parallel to which is a smaller negative electrode 2 connected to a radiation detector 4 fixed in an insulating plug 7. The chamber may be provided with an electrostatic screen consisting of electrically conductive rings 5, each of which is connected to a tapping of a voltage divider 6. The potential difference across the electrodes is 1 KV.
