1379535 lonization detectors ANGLO AMERICAN CORP OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd 27 June 1973 [27 June 1972 15 Nov 1972] 30464/73 Heading H1D In a smoke detector of the ionization type comprising a smoke chamber 36 and a reference chamber 18 each containing a grid electrode 38, 32, the sections 20, 22 and the housing 34 are made of conductive plastics material which provides electrostatic shielding yet is resistant to corrosion. Such a material can contain carbon black as metal dopes to give a resistivity of about 10<SP>-4</SP> ohms /cc. The grid electrodes 32, 38 can also be made of conductive plastics material.
