Abstract

1,260,984. Ionization detectors. NITTAN CO. Ltd. 17 June, 1970 [21 June, 1969], No. 29504/70. Heading H1D. [Also in Division G1] In an ionization smoke detector, means are provided for producing an alarm when the resistance of insulating material supporting the electrodes of the detector ionization chamber falls due to contamination. As shown, the detector includes an insulating base 2 supporting electrodes 10, 12 and 14 so as to form a closed ionization chamber 21 containing a radio-active source 18 and an open ionization chamber 22 containing a radio-active source 20. An electrode 24 is provided on the base 2 and is connected to the inner electrode 10 so that when the intermediate electrode 12 is connected to the gate of an F.E.T., Fig. 2 (not shown), decrease in the insulation resistance lowers the internal resistance of the closed chamber and thereby raises the potential of electrode 12 to actuate the alarm.
