Abstract
1,217,792. lonization chambers. CERBERUS A.G. 18 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 30892/69. Heading H1D. An open ionization chamber of a fire alarm, including a radio-active substance 8, 9 and two electrodes 3, 4, has an inner wall 5 having one or more apertures 11, 12 and an outer wall 6 of similar geometrical form having one or more apertures 10 so located that the lateral separation between the edges of apertures in the two walls is greater than the separation between the two walls. The flow of air through the chamber is thus reduced to a magnitude such that the ionization current is not affected. The inner wall 5 may form an electrode of the chamber, and the outer wall 6 may be removable. The apertures in wall 5 may consist wholly or in part of grids. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the walls are of angular form approximating to the hemispherical. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the outer wall is formed by part of a trim member for the fire alarm and has a single large aperture.
