1392597 lonization chambers J E LOVELOCK 8 May 1972 [8 May 1971 29 July 1971] 13877/71 and 35593/71 Heading H1D An electron capture detector comprises an elongate ionization chamber having inlet and outlet ports for conveying a gas flow through the chamber, an outer electrode, an inner electrode and a separate source of ionizing radiation spaced from the inner electrode for ionizing the gas flow, the chamber having a length at least in order of magnitude greater than any lateral dimension thereof. Suitable radiation sources are nickel-63, tritium and americium- 241.
