Abstract

1,123,023. Spark gaps for lightning arresters. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Feb., 1966 [19 March, 1965], No. 11699/65. Heading H2H. Each electrode 1 of the spark gap of an arc extinguishing device, e.g. a lightning arrester, comprises a composite member formed of two mechanically and electrically connected metallic plates 2, 3, plate 3 providing a spark surface 7 and having a greater resistance to are erosion than the plate 2, which provides an arc-running surface 6 and has better arc-run properties than the plate 3. The materials of plates 2, 3 may be respectively magnetic stainless steel and a sintered copper-tungsten mixture.
