Abstract
1455806 Spark gaps SIEMENS AG 28 Jan 1975 3609/75 Heading H1D Activating material 5 is applied at least to the inner wall of an annular electrode 3 and to the faces of the main electrodes 1 and 2 of a two-path surge arrester in which the said faces of the main electrodes 1 and 2 are provided with annular projections 4 to form hollow dispenser electrodes. In the arrester shown the projections 4 are metal rings, e.g. of iron, which are also provided on both faces of the electrode 3. The faces of the main electrodes 1 and 2 have a gridiron pattern of grooves 7 to anchor the electron emissive material 5 which may be extended over the facing surfaces of the rings 4 (Fig. 2, not shown). The arrester may be mounted in a metal tube 8 with the electrode 3 in contact with the tube 8 which may be earthed. The glass or ceramic insulators 6 are grooved to provide insulating gaps 10 between the tube 8 and the main electrodes 1 and 2 which are contacted by members 9.
