530,645. Reversing. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS-DIESEL. June 16, 1939, No. 17684. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1938. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a reversible two-stroke engine, the scavenging pump comprises two engine-driven centrifugal compressors, one arranged to be active when the engine runs in one direction and the second when the engine runs in the opposite direction. In one form, Fig. 1, separate pump housings 5, 6 comprise air intakes 12, 13 and outlets 14, 15, Fig. 3, leading through a pressure conduit 16 to the scavenging- air receiver of the engine. The pump rotors 9, 10 are secured to a common shaft 11 driven from the engine through gearing 19 ... 22, the vanes of the rotors 9, 10 being arranged in opposite directions, so that one or other pump is active according to the direction of rotation. A flap valve 18, Fig. 3, at the junction of the conduits 14, 15 with the conduit 16, is moved by the current from one or other pump to shut off the conduit leading from the other. In a modification, the pumps are provided with a common air intake located between them, and the driving gearing is located between the pump unit and the engine.
