Abstract

790,116. Rotary pumps. DEAN, F. J., and AUTO UNION GES. Sept. 15, 1955 [Sept. 21, 1954], No. 27307/54. Class 110 (2). In a pump of the flexible vane type the vanes 3, 4 are made of spring steel or phosphor bronze, are provided with wear-resistant tips 10 and are secured tangentially to a rotor 2 which is eccentrically mounted within a cylinder 1 having two rows of inlet and outlet ports 14, 15 (see also Fig. 2, not shown). A bypass pipe 16 is arranged across the inlet port 14 as shown unless three vanes are provided (see Fig. 3, not shown). The pump may constitute a charging pump for a two-stroke internal combustion engine in which case the crankshaft of the engine constitutes the rotor of the pump (see Fig. 4, not shown). The pump may be mounted on and driven by an electric motor and serve to supply cooling air thereto (see Fig. 6, not shown) or be adapted to supply a fuel/air mixture to a burner (see Fig. 5, not shown). Again the pump may be mounted in a duct and be adapted to draw gas past its casing by a suction effect (see Fig. 7, not shown). The tips 10 may be made of polyurethane or nylon and the end covers of the cylinder may be fixed to the rotor. Finally, the pump may serve as a supercharger for a four-stroke internal combustion engine.
