Abstract
1452221 Continuous combustion engines T AIRAS 2 Jan 1974 [2 Jan 1973] 00125/74 Heading F1S A continuous combustion engine comprises a frame 2, a cylinder group 1 arranged to rotate relative to the frame, a crankshaft 5 arranged to rotate relative to the frame and to the cylinder group, a rotary valve arrangement at a surface between the rotating cylinder group and the stationary frame, and an external combustion chamber 23 for continuous combustion connected to valve ports in the frame, the engine being arranged in such a way that each cylinder in the cylinder group, through ports in the cylinder, will work alternately as a compressor pumping air into the combustion chamber 23 via one set of ducts and as a motor fed with expanding working medium from the combustion chamber via another set of ducts. As shown the crankshaft 5 is coupled to the cylinder group 1 by way of the gears 8 to 11. The output shaft 17 is driven by the gear 9. A valve 26 can be used to shut off or throttle the flow of working medium to the cylinder.
