Abstract

548,237. Pumps ; reversing. CROSSLEY BROS., Ltd., and CARTER, H. D. July 11, 1941, No. 8804. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v)] In a vertical marine oil engine having a rotary scavenging-blower, the blower f is disposed vertically at one end of the engine, and the thrust block e beneath the blower space. The shafts h, i of the blower are geared together and driven from the crank shaft c by bevel gears k, m. The blower is provided with two inlet valves o, p and two outlet valves r, s so arranged that one set o and s serve for one direction of engine rotation, and the other set p and r for the reverse direction. The outer split bearing v<SP>1</SP> of the crank shaft is mounted in a removable housing w, x so that the bevel wheel m may be withdrawn axially.
