Abstract
900,881. Rotary engines. NORTHEY ROTARY COMPRESSORS Ltd. Dec. 30, 1960 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 4848/60. Class 110 (2). A rotary compressor having two geared rotors comprises a plate 10 housing main-shaft and lay-shaft bearings 11 and 18, respectively; a fan 13 mounted on main-shaft 12 ; an annular housing 14 round the fan, by which the compressor may be bolted to a driving motor; a gear-case drum 21 cast with two internal bearing housings 23, 24 in which the main-shaft and layshaft are respectively supported in bearings 40, 41 and 25, 26; a housing 57 containing the two rotors; and an end cap 60. Inlet ports 72, 73 are provided (of which only one is used at a time) which communicate with the rotor chamber 56 by passages 71 and 70. The outlet port 76 communicates with the rotor chamber by passages 75, 74. The bearings 23, 24, 40 and 41 are lubricated from troughs 32 and 49 which are fed with oil by an oil flinger 50 on the main shaft. Oil is also fed from oil tank 79 to the interior of rotor housing 57. The compressor is supported on elastic mountings 63 and 78. End cap 60 and housing 57 are fixed to the gear case drum 21 by studs 58, and, since the rotors overhang the bearings, they and the seals 52, 53 may easily be removed.
