Abstract
587,684. Rotary pumps. STEVENS, A. H. (Eaton Manufacturing Co.). July 18, 1944, No. 13740. [Class 110 (ii)] In a pump of the n and n+1 lobe type, the pressure in the delivery port 40 is kept approximately constant through a spring-pressed wall 54 moving axially with increase in delivery pressure and thus opening up a byepass to the suction port 38. To prevent tilting of the wall, due to uneven distribution of pressure in the pump, the spring 56 is eccentrically positioned with respect to the driving shaft 32. Outer and inner rotors 22, 20 mesh together, a snap ring 35 preventing axial movement of 20 relatively to the shaft 32. The wall 54 which may be of a light metal or alloy such as aluminium or magnesium, is prevented from rotating by pin-and-socket connection with the housing wall 30. Ports 38, 40 are of segmental shape. A wear ring 36. may be provided around the outer rotor. Liquid leaking along the shaft 32 drains through a duct 87 to the suction port. This liquid lubricates the bearings 33. In a second arrangement, Fig. 7, liquid passing from an inlet 96 to the suction port 104 is led through a filter 102, passes through the pump to a discharge port 48a. A port 38a is connected to the suction, and, when the wall 54a, together with the outer rotor 22a, move axially under delivery pressure, the port 38a communicates with the delivery 48a. U.S.A. Specification 1,682,563 is referred to.
