Abstract

699,438. Rotary pumps. MONO PUMPS, Ltd. (Robbins & Myers, Inc.). March 13, 1952, No. 6599/52. Class 110(ii) A helical gear pump of the Moineau type has a stator 28, with an outer cylindrical casing 29, of resilient material, with a connecting piece 30 which allows gyratory movement of the stator relative to the casing 29. The pump rotor 27 is driven by an electric motor 10 with a chamber 16 between them through which cooling air circulates using holes 31, 12a, and from which any liquid condensing on a pump wall 17, drains. A slinger ring 32 prevents moisture from entering a bearing 14. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), the pump and motor casings are separated, the shaft ends being in bearings supported by a pedestal. The pump has inlet and outlet ports 26, 21, the outside of casing 29 being subjected to inlet pressure, and the inside to delivery pressure. The casing 29 tends to swell outwards against the inside of the casing wall 11, but this movement is restricted to prevent excessive deformation. The length of the piece 30 varies. The ports 26, 21 are preferably at the top of the pump, which can then be always submerged in liquid. The outlet may communicate with a pressure switch 35, Fig. I (not shown).
