Abstract

741,767. Rotary pumps. SIMMS MOTOR UNITS, Ltd., and RACKHAM, G. J. May 26, 1954 [Sept. 23, 1953], No. 26259/53. Class 110(2) A rotary pump, e.g. sliding vane type, is formed on an extension of a spindle of a lighting dynamo forming a composite dynamo-pump unit having a common mounting on and to be driven by an internal-combustion engine, e.g. of the diesel type. The spindle 3 is supported by only two bearings 8 one in each of the extreme end plates of the unit. A shaft seal 9 is mounted in a partition 4 between the dynamo 1 and the pump 2. Either the dynamo or the pump end of the spindle may be driven by the engine. The pump may be used in a servo-braking system of a - vehicle, as an air compressor, or as an oil 'pump and be driven at one and a half to twice the engine speed.
