Abstract
528,181. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and RUFF, H. R. March 22, 1939, No. 9069. [Class 39 (i)] In a discharge lamp of the type in which the electrodes are heated by the current for starting, and are then automatically cut out, means are provided whereby the heating current may be greater than the normal working current of the lamp. For this purpose the lamp 5 is connected in series with a stabilizing coil 2 and switch 3 which at first directs the current through the electrodes 4 and a condenser 6, but when the electrodes are heated opens so that the current passes through the lamp; a rectifier may be substituted for the condenser 6.
