Abstract
503,990. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PRINZ, D. G. Jan. 11, 1938, No. 884. Addition to 474,264. [Class 39 (i)] In the method of starting the discharge in each cycle in which, as described in the parent Specification, a discharge, initiated by an external electrode 6, Fig. 4, is maintained by a discharge from an internal auxiliary electrode 5, the auxiliary discharge being fed by the discharge of a condenser 11 through an inductor 12, subsidiary means are provided for maintaining the cathode spot until the auxiliary discharge is established. The subsidiary means may comprise a further electrode 5<1>, D.C. source 8<1>, and resistance 71, or may comprise a resistance 7<1>, Fig. 5, in parallel with the inductor 12 ; in another form, the inductor 12 and condenser 11 are connected in series between the cathode and a point between the electrode 5 and resistance 10 so that a small discharge current may be supplied from the 'source 8 through the resist. ance 10.
