Abstract

477,648. Electron multipliers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ALDOUS, W. H. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30682. [Class 39 (i)] In a multiplier of the kind having crossed electric and magnetic fields, some at least of the cathodes and field electrodes are coaxial rings, and the magnetic field is set up by a current-carrying conductor lying along the axis. As shown, the cathodes are a series of rings 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, spaced along the axis and the field plates 1<1>, 2<1>, 3<1>, 4<1>, 5<1>, 6<1>, are a coaxial set of rings. A copper bar 9 lying along the axis carries the current creating the magnetic field. In modifications the cathodes and field plates are interchanged, the cathodes are successive frusta of a cone, and the field plates are replaced by a single cylinder, or a cone parallel to the cathode frusta.
