Abstract

795,282. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 19, 1955 [April 22, 1954], No. 11265/55. Class 39(1). A trochotron with a plurality of anodes 13-22 lying opposite the gaps between primary auxiliary electrodes 2-11, is provided with a plurality of secondary auxiliary electrodes 23-32 in the said gaps, each connected to the next primary auxiliary electrode in the direction of beam rotations. The beam from the cathode 1 when in its state of rest strikes partly a spade electrode 2 and partly an anode, and the secondary electrode 24 at that point takes up to 5 per cent of the beam current the secondary electrode may be shaped as a tag of the following spade as shown. Each spade is connected by a resistor of 100,000 ohms to a common source of +100 V. The magnetic field 350 Gaurs is parallel to the cathode. The anodes are connected through separate resistors 33 to a source of +200 V. By operating a switch 36, the annular conductor 12 is connected to earth, i.e., the cathode potential, pulsing the spade electrodes by -100 V. and causing the transfer of the beam in a clockwise direction. The presence of secondary electrodes taking a small current enables a smaller pulse voltage to be used and tends to avoid jumps of more than a single gap. The secondary electrodes may be plates separate from the primary spade electrodes which may also have various shapes, e.g., curved or straight and radially arranged. The anodes may be a unitary cylinder ; and there may be a screen arranged between the anodes and the auxiliary electrodes with gaps opposite the anodes.
